Dietetics Master’s Programs with Supervised Practice

Utah State University provides two ACEND-accredited supervised practice program for students on the path to become registered dietitians. Both are great options for students both attending Utah State University and for students across the country. The Commission on Dietetic Registration requires a minimum of a master’s degree to be eligible to take the credentialing exam to become a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN).

Graduates who successfully complete the ACEND-accredited DPD program at Utah State University are eligible to apply to one of these ACEND-accredited supervised practice program after graduation.

Pre-RD MDA

Location: Online (in Utah or outside of Utah)

Cost: $19,055

Length: 3 semesters

Supervised Practice Information: Utah rotations will be coordinated by the program. Individuals training out-of-state need to secure rotations as part of the application process.

Required Admission Information:

  • Applicants must be a graduate of an accredited nutrition/dietetics program with a DPD Verification Statement OR be in the process of completing an accredited nutrition/dietetics program and will receive a DPD Verification Statement or Foreign Dietitian Education program (FDE) upon completion.
    • Applicants with a DPD Verification Statement more than 4 years old at the time of application may have to meet additional requirements. Please review our Recency of Education Policy.
  • Applicants must have a DPD GPA of 3.0 or greater.
  • No Ds or Fs in any course on your DPD program's course list.
  • Approximately 400 hours of work or volunteer experience (download) is required.
  • Applicants to the USU MDA must secure preceptors and training sites prior to applying.
  • Applicants must have technological competence.
  • Both bachelor’s degree and DPD Verification Statement must be conferred prior to August 1st of the year a student plans to start the MDA.
  • The GRE is not required for admission.

Length: 4 semesters (2 years)

Required Admission Information:

  • Applicants must be a graduate of an accredited nutrition/dietetics program with a DPD Verification Statement OR be in the process of completing an accredited nutrition/dietetics program and will receive a DPD Verification Statement or Foreign Dietitian Education program (FDE) upon completion.
  • Applicants must have completed or be in the process of competing these required credits:
    • Chemistry (9 credits)
    •   Physiology/ Anatomy (6 credits)
    •   Psychology/ Education/ Counseling (6 credits)
    •   Statistics (3 credits)
    •  Nutrition Science courses (9 credits), must include at least one 4XXX- level course.
  •  Applicants must obtain a Food Managers Certification.
  •  Approximately 300 hours Dietetics-related experience are required for applicants.
