Keen shoe factory robot

Portland-based footwear and outdoor brand, KEEN, visited Utah State University’s campus with their revolutionary, shoe weaving robot, the UNEEKBOT. The visit was a part of KEEN’s larger tour to promote the Uneek shoe and showcase opportunities for new technology to change how products are designed and manufactured.

USU students spent the day watching as the UNEEKBOT’s mechanical arms weaved shoes seamlessly. The robot can weave a pair of shoes in 7 minutes. Meanwhile, KEEN employees taught students about the shoemaking process and gave away free pairs of shoes to students who called heads or tails correctly on a coinflip.

KEEN was invited to campus by OPDD. The company also spoke to students in the Industry Seminar class about professionalism, career readiness and how to make it in the industry.

Additional coverage of the event can be found on the Herald Journal’s website.

Industry collaborations made possible through the Manufacturing and Outdoor Products Support Hub, a partnership between Utah Manufacturing Extension Service and Outdoor Product Design & Development.
