Animal Molecular Genetics

The Animal Molecular Genetics specialization provides academic training and research opportunities in the areas of molecular genetics and biotechnology. These opportunities involve genetics, molecular biology, molecular reproduction, and molecular diagnostics. Students receive training for careers in various biotechnology related fields, including animal and human health, diagnostic medicine, academia, government, and other biotechnology related fields. A current research area of emphasis is to evaluate and identify molecular markers that are directly associated with economically important traits of interest to livestock producers in the intermountain west. Specific traits include longevity, marbling, feed efficiency, and average daily gain.
