Food Science

Passionate about food, sustainability, and science.

Food Science integrates a broad range of core scientific disciplines (including chemistry, biology, biochemistry, microbiology, nutrition and health, and engineering) to solve real problems associated with the many facets of the food system.  Food scientists are at the forefront of making food production more sustainable, efficient, and safe, addressing issues like food security, waste reduction, and eco-friendly packaging.

Graduates find rewarding careers in food engineering, sustainability, quality assurance, product development, and food safety--shaping a healthier, more sustainable food future.

We feed the minds to feed a hungry world.

Through their studies, Food Science students learn to analyze the composition of food to improve preservation, processing, and distribution while ensuring foods are nutritious, safe, affordable, and environmentally responsible. As the largest industry in the world, the food sector needs scientists to innovate and build systems that can feed a growing population in a sustainable way.
