Biography

Lacee R. Boschetto is an assistant professor in the Applied Sciences, Technology and Education Department. She earned her doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Utah State University. She holds a bachelor's and master's degree in Family and Consumer Sciences Education and has over 18 years of teaching experience in secondary and post-secondary environments. Her primary role at USU is serving as a teacher educator.

Teaching Interests

I enjoy teaching undergraduate and graduate courses focusing on instructional methodology and classroom management within the career technical education discipline. My role as a teacher educator includes supervising FCS students through preservice teacher practicum experiences. Aside from FCS education, I enjoy teaching an extensive general-education course on universal dress practices. As an educator, I live by a phrase that represents the three pillars of my teaching philosophy, "Make it Known, Make it Real, and Make it Matter."

Research Interests

My research interests focus on strengthening the quality and presence of family and consumer sciences (FCS) curriculum and instruction in educational environments to improve individuals, families, and communities. I specifically explore ways to enhance the effectiveness of the career technical education curriculum, emphasizing FCS, through the contributions of school-based and non-formal teacher preparation programs. Continuous research endeavors include investigating aspects of adulthood literacy (the knowledge and life skills necessary to exhibit personal independence and societal contribution within the 21st century) and how to support high school graduates toward successful futures. As well as the creation and implementation of project-based learning to enhance secondary students' awareness of career pathway options.

Graduate Student Mentor Philosophy

At the core of my philosophy lies the transformative learning theory, which posits that education should be a process of personal and intellectual growth. Drawing from this foundation, I believe in fostering an environment where graduate students can apply their personal and professional experiences to construct meaningful study and research. This approach recognizes the diversity of perspectives and backgrounds within academia, allowing students to integrate their unique insights into their scholarly pursuits. By encouraging the incorporation of personal experiences, I aim to guide students toward a holistic understanding of their subject matter, fostering a deeper and more nuanced approach to their research.

To implement this philosophy effectively, I prioritize an environment that provides transparent communication, clear expectations, and unwavering support. I strive to model a supportive atmosphere that acknowledges the challenges inherent in graduate studies, empowering students to overcome obstacles and thrive in their academic and professional pursuits. Within this mentorship paradigm, I advocate for a healthy balance between mentor-guided inquiry and self-guided exploration, promoting autonomy and intellectual curiosity. Through this approach, graduate students can develop into independent scholars who contribute meaningfully to their respective fields.
