Biography

I developed an appreciation for natural landscapes growing up in the Ouachita Mountains of central Arkansas. I spent many wonderful and exciting days with my father, brother, and friends hunting (doves) and fishing (bass, of course!). My family home was on the edge of Hot Springs National Park where my friends and I would spend our afternoons and summers playing and exploring the trails and woodlands. My interest and love for natural landscapes developed further into backpacking and canoeing in the Ozark Mountains as a college student at the University of Arkansas, where I was the leader of the student union outdoor recreation program, teaching seminars in backpacking and land navigation and leading hiking and canoeing trips. At age 20 I took a four month solo trip through the western US and Canada, seeing in great detail the spectacular mountain, desert, and prairie landscapes. Upon graduating with a degree in natural sciences, I pursued my MLA at Utah State and have lived in the West ever since (Utah, Colorado, and Idaho). My chosen profession affords me the opportunity to live, teach, research, learn, and recreate in these western public landscapes that I have grown to love. In the summer I enjoy traveling in the western states, especially the Yellowstone National Park area, fishing, hiking, and taking photographs. In winter you can find me cross country skiing and taking more photos. I continue to nurture my fascination with landscape scenic beauty as a professional researcher and consultant in landscape visual resource analysis, management, and visual simulation on public and private lands across the western states.
