Q&A with Jonathon Walters

Q: Tell us about your background (education, what led you here) and your position at SNAC.
A: I have been in the food and beverage industry for more than 20 years and a professional chef for the past 15 years. Most recently, I served as a culinary arts instructor for Bridgerland Technical College. Prior to moving to Logan, I was the Executive Chef of Catering at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. My culinary arts degree is from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, and I also hold a Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems Technology from Southern Illinois University. This spring, I earned a Master’s degree in Education from the Career and Technical Education program at Utah State University. I live in Logan with my wife, Dr. Jayme Walters, daughter, Kate, who is 9, and two dogs, Roxy and Carly.

Q: What are you looking forward to as director of SNAC?
A: I am really looking forward to being a part of the talented team that is tackling food insecurity at USU. SNAC is on the leading edge in its efforts to address student hunger in a university setting. I hope with my experience in supply chain management and coordination of large food service operations that I can help SNAC continue to grow, innovate, and ensure students at USU have their basic needs met.

Q: How do you spend your free time?
A: I like to read, mostly crime fiction, mysteries, and thrillers. I also enjoy spending time with my family by going to local events like Aggie football and Salt Lake Bees games. My daughter and I play Minecraft together and recently took up kite flying. So far, we have been much more successful in Minecraft.

Q: Favorite book or movie?
A: Movies - Ghostbusters (1984) & Rad. Authors - Alexandre Dumas, Jules Verne, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, David Baldacci, John Grisham.
