Ag Communications Alumnus wins National Association of Farm Broadcasting Horizon Award.

Congratulations to Corryn La Rue, an ag communications and broadcast journalism alumnus, for winning the National Association of Farm Broadcasting Horizon Award!
La Rue graduated from Utah State University in 2019 with a bachelor’s in Ag Communications and a second bachelor’s in Journalism with an emphasis in broadcast. She minored in animal science.
The National Association of Farm Broadcasting (NAFB) honors an individual each year who is relatively new to the industry and has made significant contributions to the broadcasting industry.
“It is basically their up-and-coming broadcaster award,” La Rue said. “You can only be nominated and win this award within your first five years of being a broadcaster.”
La Rue was involved with the Ag Communicators of Tomorrow (ACT) organization and NAFB for most of her college career. She credits Dr. Kelsey Hall for getting her involved in NAFB and pushing her to get more and more involved with the organization.
“She is the type of professor that believes in you more than you believe in yourself,” La Rue said. “I was just a terrified 18-year-old when I went to my first [NAFB] convention.”
La Rue also said being involved in these organizations helped her find what she is passionate about and that has carried into her professional career.
“It’s not always super glamourous, but the feeling of doing something important makes it all worth it,” La Rue said after talking about how honored she felt about receiving the award.
She encourages young agricultural communicators to join the organization and to not be afraid to follow their passion.
La Rue currently works as the network programmer and videographer for the California Department of State Hospitals – Atascadero. She also hosts California Ag Today, a radio ag news show broadcaster over 30 stations across the entire state of California.
La Rue is just one of the success stories from the Agriculture Communications program. Students in this program take courses in a variety of topics, from broadcast to nutrition, to ensure they are well rounded communicators who are ready to enter the professional realm as soon as they graduate!
