Students from Outdoor Product Design and Development (OPDD) were recently visited by Ben Doxey, a Utah State University alumni and former OPDD student. Doxey works as an apparel designer for Salt Lake City-based outdoor product company, Cotopaxi.

Doxey discussed his career pathway including internships with Cotopaxi, Helly Hansen, and Patagonia, to his full-time position as an apparel designer at Cotopaxi. During his presentation, he emphasized the responsibility designers have to develop more sustainable and ethically-sourced products.

He made it clear that designers have power to solve problems and choose better solutions. Doxey said that if students are looking to make positive impacts when it comes to product design, the outdoor industry is where that can happen.
