Maple Syrup

Youping Sun, of the Plants, Soils, and Climate department, has recently been awarded $500,000 in grant funds for a project dedicated to "Developing a Maple Syrup Industry for the Interior West through Extension and Research." While the maple industry is dominant in the northeast, this project will bring the industry to the west. With several native maple species, there is plenty of opportunity to bring the maple industry to life in Utah. Sun's project will educate landowners and homeowners about maple sap collection and production processes through Extension programs and determine sap yields using various sap-collecting systems. Congratulations to Professor Sun!
