Travis West brings synthetic insulation samples for students to test

During their time in Outdoor Product Design and Development, students have the opportunity to interact and learn from industry professionals. Students enrolled in the textile science class were recently visited by Travis West, a product marketing manager from Primaloft, to learn about synthetic insulation.

During West’s presentation, students had the chance to ask questions regarding insulation properties, the benefits of synthetic insulation over natural, and what innovations are happening in material development.

West also gave a glimpse into the role of a designer and developer in selecting materials, supply chains and sourcing, and how to work with material developers to bring innovation to market.

Industry collaborations made possible through the Manufacturing and Outdoor Products Support Hub, a partnership between Utah Manufacturing Extension Service and Outdoor Product Design & Development.
