Ryan Bake Receives Scholarship from the American Royal Livestock Show

Logan, UT – Congratulations to Ryan Bake for receiving a scholarship from the American Royal Livestock Show in Kansas City, Missouri. 

Ryan Bake is a senior studying Applied Economics in the Applied Economics (APEC) department in the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences. Bake has served on the CAAS council, is president of the Young Farmers and Ranchers club and is the graduate student advisor for the Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences club at USU. Upon receiving the scholarship, Bake was inducted into the Royal Scholars, a group of students passionate about agriculture and the livestock industries. Each scholarship recipient is selected based on their academic achievement, leadership excellence and community involvement. They go through an application process then an interview by the scholarship committee. It is a prestigious scholarship to receive as only 10 students from around the country are selected. This year the program had over 200 applicants from 37 states. 

The program is designed to provide an opportunity for college students to represent the American Royal Mission of a world where food and agriculture are celebrated, and all generations are committed to its future. 

Bake, in addition to the scholarship, will have the opportunity to gain experience and exposure at American Royal events throughout the spring and fall semesters. The application process also taught him a lot.  

“It was an opportunity for me to reflect on maybe what some of my weak points are in myself…internalize those, then make a plan on how I can overcome them and turn them into strengths,” he said. 

As a Royal Scholar, Bake said he is most looking forward to attending the American Royal Livestock Show in October and meeting the other scholars who are just as passionate about the industry as him, as well as getting to promote the show across the country.
