Legislative funding from the Public Lands Initiative for FY19 was used to hire a PhD-level Assistant Director of Research and Operations position. The Assistant Director of Research and Operations position plays a leadership role in initiating, coordinating, and conducting research that leads to a better understanding of how to best provide outdoor recreation opportunities in Utah.

Funding from the Public Lands Initiative was also used to support the hosting of five regional workshops around the state with land managers, city and county governments, and businesses dependent upon outdoor recreation and tourism. These workshops have identified region-specific challenges and opportunities associated with increased outdoor recreation participation and tourism throughout the state. Information on these workshops can be found at www.utahsmostvisited.com.
