Research Farms

Blue Creek

Research is focused on small grains breeding and other dryland agriculture. Scientists from the USDA-Agricultural Research Service Forage and Range Research Laboratory (housed at USU) also conduct field work at Blue Creek.

Cache Junction

The Cache Junction Farm is among our newest facilities. Established in 2003, it is the site of commercial crop production, including alfalfa and grass hay used to feed university animals, seed peas for a seed company, as well as wheat and pinto beans.

Evans Research Farm

The Evans Research Farm, just south of Logan, is devoted primarily to forage improvement. More than 300 hybrids and several improved grass cultivars have been developed from a worldwide collection of wheatgrasses growing on the farm.

Greenville Research Farm

Grasses, legumes, cereal grains, vegetables, fruits and ornamental plants are bred and evaluated at the Greenville Research Farm in North Logan. The site was established for research in irrigated agriculture more than 100 years ago.

Irrigate Pasture Farm

The Intermountain Irrigated Pasture Project was founded in 2005 through a long-term lease with Dennis W. and Karen T. Jackson and Wells and Jodie Jackson Family Trust.

Kaysville Research Farm

Currently the UAES Kaysville Research Farm is the site of research on fruit tree cultivation, organic vegetable production, turfgrass and landscape plant irrigation requirements, fruit and vegetable production, and integrated pest management.

Nephi Dryland Research Farm

The Nephi Dryland Research Farm is the oldest continuing dryland station in North America. Research in dryland farming began at Nephi in 1903 and continues today as new dryland cereal grains at developed and rangeland forages are evaluated.

Panguitch Research Farm

The Panguitch Research Farm has ¼ mile of the Sevier River running through it, and since 2001 USU Extension has had an ongoing riparian restoration demonstration project.

Richmond Research Farm

At the Richmond Research Farm, biological control of the alfalfa weevil, a destructive pest of alfalfa is studied. The farm is also used for grass variety trials and to test minimum-tillage equipment.

Smithfield Farm

The Smithfield Farm in Cache Valley operates under the Utah Agricultural Experiment Station. Find information to contact farm managers and view maps.

Wellsville Farm

The Wellsville Farm produces forage and feed, mainly corn and barley, for the university’s teaching and research animals.
