Professor Arthur J. Morris to 42 years a member of the dairy department staff of Utah State University was honored here Wednesday by the board of directors Dairy Council of Utah.

Professor Morris who retires from USU on June 30, was presented a certificate of recognition for his “outstanding contributions to the progress of Utah’s dairy industry” by Louis R. Curtis council president. The presentation was a highlight of the monthly luncheon meeting of the Dairy Council of Utah board held Wednesday in the Colony Room of USU’s Union Building. Dixie Lee is executive director of the Dairy Council of Utah.

Following the luncheon meeting, Professor Morris conducted board members and their wives through USU's Dairy Industry Building. There they witnessed dairy research projects in progress, including a program to develop a new low fat cheddar cheese. The group was then escorted through USU’s Home Economics Building by Dr. Phyllis Snow, dean of the college of family life. Dr. Snow is a native Utahn who formerly was associate professor of food management at Cornell University.

Professor Morris for many years served as manager of the American Dairy Association of Utah, and played a major role in introducing many programs in Utah such as the annual observance of June Dairy Month. He has also been a leader with the Dairy Council of Utah. He was graduated from Utah State Agricultural College (now USU) in 1923, and in that year he began teaching in addition to operating a farm of his own. After furthering his studies at University of Wisconsin, he joined the staff of the college at Logan in 1931. He became head of USU’s dairy department in 1955.
