Program Objectives

Disciplinary Knowledge

  1. Objective 1 - Students will demonstrate through coursework projects that they can integrate their knowledge with developed skills that are related to the FCSE content areas.

  2. Objective 2 - Students will develop content expertise, appropriate for an early-career educator, in the six areas of FCSE[ 1) food science and human nutrition, 2) personal and family financial resource management, 3) textiles and clothing, 4) housing and interiors, 5) child development and parenting, 6) human development and family relations]


Skills and Career competencys

  1. Competency 1 - Students will design instruction and assessment that promotes student learning outcomes guided by Utah core competencys standards a) develop lesson plans for each content area, and b) develop assessments for each content area

  2. Competency 2 - Students will create a positive, safe, inclusive, and productive classroom and laboratory environment, which includes delivering engaging lessons using differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students according to their abilities, age levels, and cultural differences.

  3. Competency 3 - Students will implement effective, responsive instruction and assessment according to state and national education standards a) use the student teaching evaluation feedback form and rubrics, and b) use the Praxis Performance Assessment for Teachers (PPAT) Exam associated with project-based assessment.

Each of the program objectives must be achieved and properly assessed with the following required and elective courses. The course information related to the transparency of the student work and how the student work is evaluated is given in the links that correspond to the objectives. The course objectives are written to meet the course description (link to the USU catalog) and achieve the program objectives. Students are evaluated in each course by completing assignments, projects, quizzes, exams, and other forms of formative and summative assessments. To better help students understand the course and program expectations, the corresponding assignments,and the assessment tools (e.g., rubrics) are given for each program objective and its aligning course objective.
