Flight Training Devices

crj 700 cockpit

The RJ FTD offers a precise replica of the Bombardier CRJ 700 cockpit with flight controls and performance that emulate the actual jet. The simulator prepares USU students for their future careers, offering training features including over 24,000 airport locations, an accurate navigation database, and full control over weather and aircraft. Students within the program fly the simulator during their three-semester-long series of regional jet courses, including ground school and simulator coursework, which prepares them for pilot careers upon graduation. Students can receive FAA Level 5 capable training in our new RJ FTD.

Red Bird SD Simulator

red bird

This state-of-the-art simulator has a worldwide database offering specialized training. The simulator has the ability to simulate both a DA40 Diamondstar and a DA42 Twinstar aircraft. This allows students to train the same way they would in the airplane, fly the same types of approaches that they would in the real world, and even be placed in unsafe weather that might occur in the real world. This type of training allows USU students to see how the aircraft would perform once they are in the pilot seat. It also allows students to step out at the end of the session having learned in the safety of the simulator.

Red Bird MCX Simulator

redbird mcx

This simulator sports three-axis full motion movement. Located on campus, it's immersive environment is extremely conducive to simulator flight training. The aircraft simulated is a Bonanza, featuring a Garmin 430 and integrated autopilot, which allows students to become familiar and comfortable on other avionics systems they might encounter in the real world. The simulator allows training in situations considered more hazardous than safe for actual operations without ever placing anyone in any real danger.

Elite Helicopter Simulator

The Elite Helicopter Simulator is FAA approved as a generic instrument trainer.

Frasca RTD

frasca rtd

This is the newest Simulator at USU.  This simulator will bring the familiarity of the DA40 handling with the newest Garmin training for the G1000NXi.  This will allow for students to perform maneuvers, approaches, and emergencies with the same tactile layout as the DA40 also allowing for muscle memory and environmental immersion to create a realistic training event.

This simulator has been FAA approved and can be used for a certain number of hours in each of our flight training courses.  This ability to  use the simulator to replace a couple course hours allows the training to be done even when the rest of the fleet is unable to fly.
